Key Experience
Guy Wiid is a Co-Founder and Director of Epoch Resources (Pty) Ltd and is based in Johannesburg, South Africa. His particular areas of interest and expertise include the design of mine residue disposal facilities (including power station ash) and design for rehabilitation and closure, including the quantification of the associated financial liabilities.
He is registered as a Professional Engineer with the South African Council for Professional Engineers (Registration No. 940269) and as a Chartered Engineer with the American Society of Civil Engineers (Membership No. 9945778) and practices in the fields of mining waste management, mine closure and environmental management.
Guy has worked in the mining waste and environmental management field since 1990 when he started his career with Eskom. He subsequently worked briefly for Anglo American before joining a consulting engineering firm where he worked until 2005 when he left to co-found Epoch.
His work experience includes the conceptual, feasibility and detailed design of tailings storage facilities, rehabilitation and closure design and project management and the calculation of mine closure liabilities. He has also completed a number of technical reviews and due diligence investigations.
Guy has worked extensively in Africa (Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Mali, Tanzania, Lesotho, DRC, Ghana, Gabon, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, and Sierra Leone) and as far afield as Eastern Europe (Macedonia and Kosovo) and Malaysia. His experience spans a range of commodities including gold, platinum, uranium, diamonds, iron ore, fluorspar, coal, copper, nickel and rare earths.
